How to Fulfill Your Calling

You know that God has a purpose for your life, and a ministry for you to carry out. But how can you find out exactly what your ministry calling is? Ministry vs. Calling

One of the first things I had to learn on this journey into fulfilling my calling, was that ministry and calling were not the same thing. I found that many of the desires I had for ministry were based more on my experiences in life than they were on a unique calling from God.

So what was the best thing to do? Until I could find out exactly what my calling was, I had to start doing something. I had to see what ministry opportunities were available and get started. Then as I tried different kinds of ministry, a picture began to form. Over time, I slowly began to see more clearly what my life destiny would look like.

I am sure that you have found yourself in the same position. There are many desires burning in you and things that you would like to do in ministry. There are specific needs you would like to fill and specific people whom you feel a compassion for.

But is this your calling? It could be, but the chances are that God has something different for you.

Levels of Ministry

One of the first things you need to realize as you look at the subject of ministry, is that there are many different levels of ministry that you can get involved in. These start from the lower levels of basic ministry and lead up to the highest levels of Ministry Office. And lying between these is a whole list of possible things you could do in ministry.

Gifts and Abilities

What gifts and abilities do you have that will make you more effective in ministry? Do you know what God has given you? Do you know what you will need to do some of the things you want to do? And do you know how to go about getting these things if you do not have them?

What About the Godhead?

Did you realize that the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God the Father all have different roles to play in your ministry calling? Each are involved in different levels and different kinds of ministry. And often your readiness for your calling is dependent on how well you know each member of the Godhead. 

What About Training?

What kind of training do you need to do the work of the ministry? Do you need to go and spend years at a Bible College? Do you need to study and get degrees before you can do the work of the ministry? And once you have these qualifications, how do you use them to fulfill your calling?

What About Mentorship

Then there is the popular idea these days of finding a mentor to teach you how to do the work of the ministry. What exactly is the role of the mentor, and how will this prepare you better to do the work of the ministry? And is this what will finally help you to find your ministry calling?

Who is Your Spiritual Parent?

If you think mentorship is new and radical then you have not come close to realizing all that is involved in full ministry training. But even here there is still a lot of confusion. What exactly does a spiritual parent do, and what is the main difference between a mentor and a spiritual parent?

Most of the time these two are confused, and because nobody really knows how it works there are few who eventually come to the place where they can finally say,
