Every Christian is positively called to be “filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18), and to “walk by the Spirit” (Gal. 5:16). Conversely, he is commanded, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit” (Eph. 4:30), and “do not quench the Spirit” (1 Thess. 5:19). What do these commands mean, and how does the Christian obey them? What does it mean to be spiritual? According to Scripture, spirituality is the life the Christian enjoys when he’s properly living in dependence upon the Holy Spirit and walking according to Scripture. God has blessed the Christian with all that is necessary to live the spiritual life, but ignorance must give way to the light of God’s Scriptural revelation before the spiritual walk can begin. As the believer grows spiritually, God will develop the mind and character of Christ in him. This work explains the basics of the Christian spiritual life.
