We spend so much time practicing what we love. For example, professional athletes put in countless hours of preparation while their coaches and trainers provide critical assistance and direction. These professionals are pushed to their limits through repetitive fundamental movements and exercises. In fact, the same dedication applies for other professionals such as musicians, actors, martial artists and even those in corporate America to name a few. The interesting thing to note about these coaches and trainers is that, for the most part, their skills are not comparable to the professional. Would Phil Jackson be able to shoot as well or defend Michael Jordan? Can Béla and Martá Károlyi perform a vault like their olympic gold medalist students? Even the greatest violinists in the world have coaches that are not as talented as they, yet they each depend on their trainers and coaches to help them improve and to provide critical feedback.
So much time is spent on sports and the arts; on entertainment and on our careers. But what about God's Word? Where is the dedication to improve our knowledge with Scripture? For many the desire is within us, but most of the "how to" books are not what they seem. Let's face it, the majority of "how to" books should be renamed "what you should do" books. A process that can be duplicated and even taught to others because there is no other book in our history that will impact our lives like the Bible.
