This book contains a brief study on a very important but neglected subject, that is, the subject of free will. We will be considering in what sense the will is free and how important this subject is to the Christian faith. Does salvation depend upon man’s willingness to be saved apart from a prior work of the Holy Spirit? We will see that no one is saved against his will; however, God changes the “willer” so as to make the sinner willing. We will see that the subject of free will is at the very heart of Christianity and has a profound effect on our message and method of evangelism. We will see that “whosoever will may come.” We will see that the Bible teaches that salvation depends not on man’s willingness but on God’s willingness, God’s grace, and God’s power—and if God did not have power over man’s will the whole world would go to hell. We will see that God does not exclude anyone in His invitations; however, sinners do exclude themselves.

About the Author
Ernest C. Reisinger was an author, pastor, and zealous soul-winner. Ernie was a skillful communicator of God’s Word and had an evident love for both the Lord Jesus and the lost. In the 1950s, while still a young believer, Ernie was part of group that planted Grace Chapel (later Grace Baptist Church) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During this time, Ernie’s brother John and John’s pastor began to give books to Ernie and other leaders of the new church. Ernie was slow to embrace the old Protestant teachings of God’s sovereign grace. But once Ernie came to understand and believe them, he took up a love for theology and for teaching it to others. Ernie embarked on a life-long love of the writings of the Reformers and the Puritans. Ernie worked tirelessly in discipling young believers, distributing books, writing, as well as a preaching ministry. From all of his activity came many missionaries and gospel ministers. In 1982, Ernie was one of the men who founded a ministry devoted biblical reformation among Southern Baptist churches. This ministry was named “Founders Ministries” to signify their desire to return to the doctrines and practices of the founders of the Southern Baptist Convention, many of whom were committed to the doctrines of Grace. He saw to it that countless graduates of SBC seminaries received copies of books like “Abstract of Systematic Theology” by James P. Boyce, the first President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Reaching the age of 84, Ernie went to be with the Lord in 2004.
