From Library Journal

Using modern-day language, Monhollon (Criminal Intent, Signet, 1992) tells the story of Jesus' last three years before the crucifixion. The storyline will certainly be familiar to most Christians. While the characterizations are well rounded, the book is undermined by the use of slangy anachronisms such as okay. The intent may have been to make the story more accessible to modern readers, but it robs attention from what is an already compelling story.

Review

". . . characterizations are well rounded . . ." -- Library Journal, November 1, 1997

". . . treats Jesus as a revolutionary . . . in some ways similarly to The Last Temptation of Christ. Jesus is a thoughtful man, by turns wise and rather witty, . . . on the march to his terrible destiny. John the Baptizer is drawn fully, as a firebrand a bit too reckless, but useful in the cause; Herod and his wife have a playful, lascivious relationship, wonderfully done." -- Booklist in a starred review, January 1 and 15, 1998

"Divine Invasion will be classified as fiction, but it is based on the truth of the story of Jesus as revealed in the Gospels of the New Testament. Dramatically faithful to the details of the gospel story, the enlivening format expands that story dimensionally until it leaps with realism." -- Jesse C. Fletcher, Chancellor, Hardin-Simmons University

One of the ten best Christian novels of the year. -- Booklist

Provides the reader with a sense of immediacy that conveys a genuine feeling for first-century Palestine... -- The Midwest Book Review
